It has been a stressful few weeks. Starting this adventure of taking my professional life completely into my own hands has had its ups and downs. Exhilarating and exhausting. I’ve been trying to cope in healthy ways and have even started meditating each morning when I wake up using the Calm app. They say it takes the brain two weeks of habitual activity for something to no longer seem like a chore, for the action to become more of a natural occurrence. Two weeks is my goal with the 10 minute early morning meditation sessions and then hopefully it will become second nature. Maybe then I’ll even realize that I owe myself more downtime. Sometimes the days get away from us and giving yourself 10 minutes (at least) to just sit, be, relax and focus on yourself is something we all deserve.  (image source)

It’s weeks like these that I long to jump on a plane and head to a remote spa retreat, be rid of the rat race, let go, breathe and truly relax. Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa Resort, on the Thai island of Koh Samaui, could be just the spot. The resort was built around a cave temple that was previously used by Buddhist monks for meditation. If that doesn’t say “serenity now” then I don’t know what does. There are tropical gardens to get lost in, beaches and lagoons to lay around. The spa combines both Eastern and Western treatments- gimme one of everything, please -and also offers detoxification programs- sign me up for one of those too. And let us not forget the sunshine to be had and the divine Thai cuisine to be consumed. (image source)

A yoga/wellness retreat closer to home that I’ve had my eye on this winter is the Xinalani Retreat, an eco-resort in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. As much as I’d love to hop on a plane to Thailand tomorrow the possibility of a quick trip to Mexico for tranquility might just be doable. The retreat is set on the ocean among 10 acres of jungle along Banderas Bay. The retreat claims that the combination of stress relieving disciplines, adventure, food and spa perfectly balance out the experience. An important note/discovery: there is no wifi. I love the unavailability of wifi on a true getaway. Let it go: the emails, social media, texting, phone calls.  It is amazing how relaxing it can be to truly get off the grid. (image source)
