Fashion is fun. It should be lighthearted, never taken too seriously. When fashion can help target social issues that should be taken seriously, draw our attention to situations that many know little about, that is when fashion becomes something more and is what jewelry designer Rosena Sammi is aiming to do.
Items from Sammi’s “Who’s Sari Now?” collection are made from upcycled saris and all sales benefit the education of young girls rescued from India’s red light districts.
Pieces can be purchased on Rosenna’s website along with more beautiful designs from her other collections like the items below.
Shopping is fun, whether it be for yourself, a friend or family. When that shopping can in turn help a young girl to an education, a girl who has survived unthinkable circumstances, I can think of no better reason to make that purchase. I only hope more designers continue with this trend of giving back in ways that make the purchases that we might not necessarily need that much more worthwhile and meaningful.
